Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon butter
4 cups milk
2 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In an average mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup lard and 1 cup sugar. Include 1 egg and whip until batter is downy. In a different bowl, combine 2 cups flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir flour batter into sugar mixture just until all components are carefully mixed. Press batter into base and sides of two 9-inch pie pans.
Bake in preheated oven for 13 minutes, until caramelized.
In a big saucepan, mix milk, 1 tablespoon butter, with vanilla extract. Simmer over medium flame, and then take away from burner.
In a separate bowl, combine together 2 1/2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 cup sugar with cornstarch. Include whipped eggs to sugar batter and whip until downy. Gradually whip the batter into milk. Place the pan back on heat and simmer, stirring frequently. Simmer and stir for 7 minutes or more. Pour half of the batter into each pastry shell. Dust with cinnamon. Chill before you serve.
