Baked Alaska Simply Done


Try this simple recipe of baked alaska in which white cake is topped with ice cream and meringue, then this baked alaska recipe needs to be quickly baked in a hot oven for this yummy dessert of baked alaska.


Large egg whites 4
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 (10.75-ounce) frozen pound cake
1 quart any flavored premium ice cream, softened
Granulated sugar 1/3cup
Purchased jar chocolate, caramel or strawberry sauce, heated


Arrange rows in a 9 x 5 x 2 1/2-inch metal loaf pan with plastic wrap, leaving overhang. Spoon ice cream into prepared pan, spread over evenly and smoothing top.
Cut cake horizontally in half. place 1 cake piece, cut side down, atop ice cream and against one corner of pan. Cut remaining cake piece into strips and arrange in pan to cover ice cream finally. Cover with overhanging plastic and freeze until solid, at least 4 hours.
Reveal the cake. Invert onto metal or other ovenproof dish. Freeze while preparing meringue. Then beat egg whites in a big bowl until smooth/foamy. Include cream of tartar. Beat until soft peaks form. Beat in vanilla. Step by step add sugar, beating until stiff glossy peaks form. Spread over meringue on cake, covering cake completely and sealing meringue to platter. Freeze overnight.
Place rack in center of oven and heat up at 500*F (260*C) for 20 minutes before using. Bake dessert until meringue is lightly browned and just set, about 3 minutes.
And then cut baked Alaska into slices; arrange on plates and if desired, serve with warm sauce around dessert. Serve immediately.
