Sweet Cherry Barbecue Sauce


This sweet cherry barbecue sauce is delicious. You can try this cherry barbecue sauce on chicken. Keep in mind, because this barbecue sauce contains a good dose of sugar so you don’t need to put it on foods while they are cooking since it can burn quickly. You can add this sweet cherry barbecue sauce right on the end as you are ready to remove things from the grill.


2 tb Orange juice
2 tb Sherry
2 c Pitted and halved fresh sweet cherries
1 tb Sugar
3/4 ts Dijon style mustard
1 ts Grated orange peel
1/4 ts Salt
1 tb Cold water
3 dr Aromatic bitters optional
2 ts Cornstarch


Mix in cherries, orange juice, orange peel, mustard, sugar, salt and bitters. Cover and cook lightly for 5 minutes. Mix water and cornstarch; mix into cherry mixture and stir. Cook and stir until condensed and clear. Sauce may be preserved for about a week in the refrigerator. You can serve this with the barbecued poultry, ham or mixed specialty sausages.
